Skin texture & scar assessment · OMR

Dermaroller treatment
in Chennai.

Explore microneedling with a dermatologist.

Considering dermaroller treatment for acne scars or uneven skin texture? At Ram Skin Clinic in Thoraipakkam, OMR, start with an assessment of your concern, current skin condition and treatment expectations. A consultation helps determine whether needling is suitable or another approach would be more useful.

The treatment explained

What is dermaroller treatment?

A dermaroller is a handheld roller fitted with fine needles. Professional treatment creates controlled punctures in the skin to stimulate a repair response and collagen production. It is a form of microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy.

Microneedling can use a roller or another device, such as a motorised pen. These are not identical tools. Ask which technique is proposed and why it suits the area being treated. DermNet’s skin-needling overview explains the general approach.

Suitability

Which concerns may benefit?

Microneedling may improve the appearance of selected acne scars, fine lines, stretch marks and uneven texture. Results depend on the concern and technique; improvement does not mean complete removal. The AAD’s microneedling guide describes potential uses and limitations.

Acne scars

Different scars need different plans. Explain which areas concern you most and whether new breakouts are continuing. Active acne may need management before scar procedures. Read about acne care.

Texture and fine lines

Discuss whether the concern is texture, pigment, dryness or another skin condition. These can look similar in photographs but may need different approaches. A skin examination helps clarify the goal.

Stretch marks and other scars

Ask how the age, location and type of mark affect the proposed plan. A treatment that helps one kind of scar may not be appropriate for another, particularly a raised scar.

Know the difference

Dermaroller, MNRF or a peel?

A conventional dermaroller produces mechanical needle punctures. MNRF treatment combines microneedles with radiofrequency energy and has a different risk profile. The two names should not be used interchangeably, and MNRF should not be assumed to suit everyone who could consider conventional needling.

Chemical peeling uses a chemical agent rather than needles. Microdermabrasion works at the surface through exfoliation. The best discussion starts with your diagnosis and goals, not with a claim that one technique is universally superior.

Compare the whole plan

Ask about expected benefit, skin sensitivity, recovery, visits and ongoing costs. If a combination is proposed, ask what each component adds and whether it is necessary for your concern.

Our facilities page outlines the clinic’s procedures. Confirm the specific service and equipment arrangements at your consultation.

Before treatment

When may treatment be postponed?

Active infection, inflamed acne, open wounds or an active skin flare may make needling unsuitable at that time. Tell the dermatologist about cold sores, poor healing, raised scars, immune problems, bleeding disorders and all medicines, including isotretinoin or blood thinners.

Mention pregnancy or breastfeeding and any recent peels, laser treatments or sunburn. The clinician should assess timing and suitability; do not stop prescribed medicines on your own. Cleveland Clinic’s patient guide discusses medical history and preparation.

Bring your skincare routine

List cleansers, moisturisers, sunscreens and active products, including anything bought without a prescription. Ask which products to pause and when to restart them. Avoid introducing a new exfoliating routine immediately before the appointment without advice.

If you have had a previous reaction to numbing cream, adhesives or a cosmetic product, explain what happened. Bring photographs or the product name if useful.

At the clinic

What happens during a session?

Confirm the area and goals before treatment. Ask about hygiene, the device, consent and the planned aftercare. Session duration varies with the area and preparation; confirm how much time to allow.

01

Prepare the skin

The clinician cleans the area and may apply a topical anaesthetic. Explain any discomfort or allergy history before application.

02

Controlled needling

The selected device is used over the agreed area. Prickling, pressure or discomfort may occur, and pinpoint bleeding is possible. Report pain rather than assuming it is necessary for results.

03

Aftercare instructions

Ask what to use on your skin, what to avoid and when to seek advice. Keep the instructions available between appointments.

Recovery & risks

Allow your skin to recover.

Redness, tenderness, swelling, dryness or peeling can follow microneedling. Infection, scarring and pigment changes are possible. Ask how your skin history affects these risks, especially if you have previously developed dark or raised marks after injury.

Follow the prescribed cleansing and moisturising routine. Ask when makeup, exercise, swimming and active skincare can resume. Use the recommended sun protection and avoid picking at peeling skin. Recovery is individual; do not schedule treatment expecting guaranteed next-day readiness for an event.

Contact the clinician for worsening pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, blisters or persistent bleeding. Seek urgent care for a severe reaction.

Products and device safety

Do not assume that a serum suitable for intact skin is safe during needling. Ask about every substance used alongside the device. Regulatory status is specific to a device and intended use, not a blanket approval for any treatment combination.

The FDA’s microneedling information explains device risks and limitations. It is general US regulatory information, not a claim of approval for equipment at Ram Skin Clinic.

Results

Improvement develops gradually.

Collagen-related changes take time. Several sessions may be recommended, with recovery between them. The number and spacing should reflect your condition and response rather than a universal schedule. Scars may become less noticeable without disappearing.

Agree on how progress will be reviewed. Photographs taken in similar lighting can help the discussion; immediate swelling or a temporary glow is not the same as a lasting change. Ask when the plan would be adjusted if improvement is limited.

Dermaroller treatment cost in Chennai

Request an estimate after assessment. Ask whether the quote includes one session or a course, the treatment area, preparation, aftercare products and reviews.

If another procedure is proposed alongside needling, ask for a separate explanation of its purpose and cost. Confirm the expected overall commitment before booking a series.

Common questions

Make an informed choice.

Bring previous treatment details and a short list of priorities. You may want to focus on one area, manage breakouts first or plan around work. Discuss these preferences before deciding on a procedure.

Can I use a dermaroller at home instead?

Home devices are not equivalent to professional treatment. Misuse can cause infection, scarring or spread skin infections. Do not copy professional needle depths or share devices.

Will it remove all acne scars?

No complete-clearance guarantee is realistic. The scar pattern, skin condition and response influence improvement. A different or combined approach may be discussed.

Is it suitable for darker skin?

Skin tone alone does not decide suitability. Your clinician should assess pigmentation risk, skin condition and previous healing before recommending treatment.

Can I have treatment while acne is active?

Inflamed breakouts need assessment first. The dermatologist may recommend acne management and defer scar treatment until the skin is suitable.

Plan your consultation

Dermaroller assessment in Thoraipakkam.

Ram Skin Clinic is located in Best Towers, above Domino’s Pizza, in Okkiampet, Thoraipakkam, OMR. Confirm whether your appointment is for an initial consultation or an agreed procedure before travelling from elsewhere in Chennai.

Check our contact and location details. Ask how follow-up is arranged and whom to contact with concerns after a session. A clear treatment plan should include both the procedure and the care that follows.

Review your progress

Discuss what has changed.

At follow-up, describe both the benefit and the recovery experience. Explain whether the concern that mattered most to you has improved, whether aftercare fitted your routine and whether any irritation lasted longer than expected. Bring questions about photographs, skin colour changes or the next session into that discussion.

Ask the clinician to explain why continuing, changing or stopping the proposed course makes sense. More sessions are not automatically better. You should understand the purpose of the next step and have time to consider the expected benefit, expense and recovery.

Keep a record of procedure dates and products recommended afterward. If you consult another clinician later, this history can help them understand what your skin has already been exposed to. Avoid adding home needling between sessions without discussing it first.
